LIFTING & SPREADER BEAMS
Category: Accessories
Lifting beams and spreader beams are both pieces of below-the-hook lifting equipment designed to help cranes handle heavy or awkward loads safely. While they serve similar purposes, they work in slightly different ways:
Lifting Beams
A lifting beam is a solid horizontal beam with a single attachment point at the top for the crane hook. The load is then attached at multiple points along the bottom of the beam. This setup allows the crane to lift items with low headroom, as the load is suspended directly beneath the crane hook. Lifting beams are often used for lighter, evenly balanced loads.
Spreader Beams
A spreader beam uses two lifting points connected by slings or chains that attach to the crane hook. This spreads the load across two or more pick-up points, reducing stress on the load and providing greater stability. Spreader beams are ideal for handling wide, heavy, or delicate loads where balance and weight distribution are critical.
Key difference:
Lifting beams are best when space is tight and loads are smaller.
Spreader beams are better for large, heavy, or awkward items that need extra stability.
