The 40-tonne capacity LTM 1040-2.1, renowned throughout the industry as the leading two-axle all-terrain crane on the market, features a 4-section telescopic boom extending to 35 metres with proven hydro-mechanical telescoping capabilities that can operate under load.

“This investment represents our ongoing commitment to maintaining a modern, versatile fleet that meets the evolving demands of the construction, film and industrial sectors.”

The acquisition follows a period of significant strategic investment for NMT Crane Hire.

In recent months, the company has welcomed a Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2 mobile crane representing a £2.3 million investment, and most recently added a state-of-the-art Spierings SK1265-AT6 eLift mobile tower crane to its expanding fleet.

“Now with the addition of these LTM 1040-2.1 cranes, we’re ensuring our customers have access to the most reliable and efficient equipment available, whether they require precision lifts in confined spaces or heavy-lifting capability for major projects.”

The LTM 1040-2.1’s compact two-axle design makes it ideal for urban construction sites and projects with restricted access, while maintaining exceptional lifting performance and mobility.

The cranes feature Liebherr’s proven reliability and precision control systems, ensuring safe andefficient operations across any lift.

NMT’s Hiab does the job for new client

NMT Crane Hire has successfully completed a highly complex indoor lifting operation that demonstrated the difference between standard crane services and specialised expertise.

The project, initially estimated by the customer to require two weeks, was completed in just five days with zero incidents using our hiab. Initially we thought a crane would fit the bill but after a site visit we sent in our hiab.

The operation presented multiple complications that would challenge conventional crane services:

  • Indoor environment requiring comprehensive floor protection systems
  • Severely restricted access with steel columns limiting equipment maneuverability
  • Zero tolerance for error due to the sensitive environment
  • Customer’s initial timeline estimate of two weeks for completion

NMT Crane Hire deployed a tailored approach using their specialist equipment and expertise:

  • Specialist NMT Hiab unit specifically selected for the confined space requirements
  • Two-man expert team with extensive experience in complex indoor operations
  • Comprehensive floor protection implemented using professional plywood systems
  • Streamlined execution plan that reduced timeline by 64%

The project culminated in 38 successful lifts executed with precision, completed ahead of the original schedule while maintaining NMT’s zero-compromise approach to safety and quality standards.

“This project exemplifies what separates experience from true expertise,” said Gerry White, Sales and Operations Directior.

“When conventional cranes can’t deliver, when space is at a premium, and when precision is non-negotiable – that’s exactly when specialised knowledge and equipment make the difference.”

“This latest achievement is a direct result of the tireless efforts and dedication of our exceptional team,” said Ruth Ambridge, Joint MD.

NMT supports major rooftop installation

Last week NMT Crane Hire was proud to assist in a key milestone for the ongoing redevelopment at 100 New Bridge Street in London, delivering a critical lift that saw the successful rooftop installation of two Air Source Heat Pumps and a Packaged Plant Room.

With soaring temperatures and limited working space in the capital, the lift presented several logistical challenges. But thanks to meticulous pre-lift planning, skilled operators, and close coordination with site teams, the operation was completed safely, on time, and without disruption.

JD Ambridge, Joint Managing Director of NMT Crane Hire, said: “Urban lifting always demands precision, but in extreme heat and tight access conditions, the stakes are even higher. We’re incredibly proud of our team’s performance on this one — their expertise, attitude, and professionalism under pressure are exactly what sets NMT apart. It’s always rewarding to support clients on key project milestones like this.”

This lift is another example of how NMT continues to provide dependable crane hire solutions to complex construction and M&E projects across the capital and beyond.

NMT Crane Hire, one of the UK’s leading crane hire specialists, has strengthened its heavy-lifting capabilities with the acquisition of a second Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2 mobile crane, this time equipped with a 70-metre luffing jib.

The latest addition to the Bedford-based company’s fleet represents a £2.3 million investment and positions it among the select few UK crane hire companies operating three 300-tonne capacity cranes.

The strategic acquisition follows the successful integration of NMT’s Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2 six months ago, which has performed in line with expectations and generated significant client demand for similar heavy-lift capabilities.

JD Ambridge, Joint Managing Director at NMT, said the investment aligns with robust order books and emerging market opportunities – including the film and television industry – requiring specialised heavy-lift solutions.

“Fleet expansion has been central to our 2025 strategy,” Ambridge said.

“Our analysis of current contracts and pipeline opportunities made this decision straightforward. The first LTM 1300-6.2 has performed to expectations, our original one is still busy and now adding the luffing jib capability to a new crane addresses specific client requirements we’ve identified.”

The 70-metre luffing jib system (at 2.7 Tonnes, maximum reach) enables the crane to operate effectively in confined spaces while maintaining exceptional reach and precision capabilities that are essential for complex urban construction projects and industrial installations.

In short, this is a versatile crane that can ‘go and lift anywhere’.

Gerry White, Sales and Operations Director, emphasised the timing significance as NMT enters its peak summer operational period.

“Adding this second 300-tonne Liebherr fundamentally strengthens our service proposition,” White said.

“The crane’s ability to access tight spaces combined with its reach, radius, and now luffing capability creates unique solutions for our clients. We’re already fielding enquiries specifically for this configuration.”

NMT has completed comprehensive operator training programmes with Liebherr’s technical team, with plans to certify all operations and rigging personnel on the LTM 1300-6.2 platform.

NMT Crane Hire has successfully completed a major floodlight upgrade at the historic Kia Oval cricket ground, replacing 20-tonne lighting structures that had illuminated the venue for 14 years.

Surrey County Cricket Club commissioned the installation of state-of-the-art LED floodlights to enhance visibility and sustainability at the iconic venue, home to numerous Ashes series and Cricket World Cup matches.

The complex operation required precision lifting in a fully operational stadium with tight working spaces. NMT deployed a Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2 (300T) crane and Terex AC40L support crane to execute lifts across all four quarters of the stadium.

“Taking on a project at a venue as prestigious as The Kia Oval is a responsibility we take seriously,” said James Ambridge, Managing Director of NMT. “The new floodlights will illuminate many more iconic moments in cricket history.”

Technical Sales Manager Mikey York led the project, with on-site supervisors Adam Potts and Steve Wicks overseeing the precision lifts.

Client Shane Tugwell of DMC Group praised the outcome: “NMT Crane Hire delivered outstanding service from start to finish, ensuring a seamless and efficient upgrade to the floodlighting system.”

The successful project ensures The Kia Oval remains at the forefront of world-class cricket venues.

At NMT Cranes, lifting is more than just a service for us it’s a commitment to precision, reliability, and engineering excellence.

Our fleet is built to tackle the most demanding projects, and the Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2 stands as a prime example of the power and innovation that drive our operations.

The LTM 1300-6.2, with its 300-tonne lifting capability, is designed for versatility, making it ideal for bridge construction, tower crane assembly, and complex industrial lifts.
