NMT Crane Hire is delighted to announce the acquisition of two brand new Liebherr LTM 1040-2.1 all-terrain mobile cranes, further strengthening the company’s position as one of the UK’s leading crane hire specialists.

The 40-tonne capacity LTM 1040-2.1, renowned throughout the industry as the leading two-axle all-terrain crane on the market, features a 4-section telescopic boom extending to 35 metres with proven hydro-mechanical telescoping capabilities that can operate under load.

JD Ambridge, Joint Managing Director of NMT Crane Hire, said: “The Liebherr LTM 1040-2.1 has established itself as the benchmark for two-axle all-terrain cranes, and these additions will allow us to continue delivering the reliable, professional service our customers have come to expect from NMT.

“This investment represents our ongoing commitment to maintaining a modern, versatile fleet that meets the evolving demands of the construction, film and industrial sectors.”

The acquisition follows a period of significant strategic investment for NMT Crane Hire.

In recent months, the company has welcomed a Liebherr LTM 1300-6.2 mobile crane representing a £2.3 million investment, and most recently added a state-of-the-art Spierings SK1265-AT6 eLift mobile tower crane to its expanding fleet.

JD Ambridge added: “Our recent investments in the LTM 1300-6.2 and Spierings eLift demonstrate our commitment to offering cutting-edge lifting solutions across all capacity ranges – anywhere in the country.

“Now with the addition of these LTM 1040-2.1 cranes, we’re ensuring our customers have access to the most reliable and efficient equipment available, whether they require precision lifts in confined spaces or heavy-lifting capability for major projects.”

The LTM 1040-2.1’s compact two-axle design makes it ideal for urban construction sites and projects with restricted access, while maintaining exceptional lifting performance and mobility.

The cranes feature Liebherr’s proven reliability and precision control systems, ensuring safe andefficient operations across any lift.

NMT’s Hiab does the job for new client

NMT Crane Hire has successfully completed a highly complex indoor lifting operation that demonstrated the difference between standard crane services and specialised expertise.

The project, initially estimated by the customer to require two weeks, was completed in just five days with zero incidents using our hiab. Initially we thought a crane would fit the bill but after a site visit we sent in our hiab.

The operation presented multiple complications that would challenge conventional crane services:

  • Indoor environment requiring comprehensive floor protection systems
  • Severely restricted access with steel columns limiting equipment maneuverability
  • Zero tolerance for error due to the sensitive environment
  • Customer’s initial timeline estimate of two weeks for completion

NMT Crane Hire deployed a tailored approach using their specialist equipment and expertise:

  • Specialist NMT Hiab unit specifically selected for the confined space requirements
  • Two-man expert team with extensive experience in complex indoor operations
  • Comprehensive floor protection implemented using professional plywood systems
  • Streamlined execution plan that reduced timeline by 64%

The project culminated in 38 successful lifts executed with precision, completed ahead of the original schedule while maintaining NMT’s zero-compromise approach to safety and quality standards.

“This project exemplifies what separates experience from true expertise,” said Gerry White, Sales and Operations Directior.

“When conventional cranes can’t deliver, when space is at a premium, and when precision is non-negotiable – that’s exactly when specialised knowledge and equipment make the difference.”
